SUBSIDIARY SYSTEM FOR A PREGNANT WOMAN

Q. Is there a subsidiary system for pregnant women?
A. To encourage childbirth of health insurance holders or the dependents that are confirmed to be pregnant, National Health Insurance Corporation(www.nhic.or.kr, 02-390-2000) is implementing ‘gounmom card’ system which reduces the costs for medical treatments. When pregnancy is confirmed at the moment, pregnant women can be subsided the pregnancy costs through the ‘gounmom card’ up to 40,000won per day, in the range of total 400,000won (applicants after 2011.4.1, those before this period are subsided total 300,000won) for 60 days after childbirth. However, the amount of money is lapsed when it is unused during the subsidiary period. ‘Gounmom card’ can be requested at post offices, KB bank branches, or the National Health Insurance Corporation after issuing ‘Health insurance pregnancy*delivery(childbirth) subsidiary application and confirmation of pregnancy’ document at obstetrics and gynecology clinics. The new pregnancy subsidiary card (gounmom card) can be used in designated recuperation institutions (obstetrics and gynecology clinics). Designated institutions can be checked at http://hi.nhic.or.kr/portal/site/hi .
