Foreigner Registration
Target Foreigners intending to stay in Korea more than 90 days
ContentsForeigners intending to stay in Korean more than 90 days must register as foreigners within 90 days.
But if the Korean visa attached on the passport used for entry limits the length of stay to 59 days, it is
necessary to register within 59 days.
Foreigners who receive permission to stay during their visit to Korea or receive permission to change their
residential status must register immediately after getting the permission.

ContentsForeigners wishing to stay in Korea longer must extend their stay between 2 months before the expiration
date and on the expiration date.

Target▶ For marriage immigrants

ContentsIf marriage immigrants have stayed in Korea for more than 2 years, have not violated any laws, have the
basic knowledge required to stay in Korea such as language skills and satisfy the following conditions,
they can earn permanent residency by applying for a change of residential status. .
▶ Immigrants do not need to give up their original nationality.
▶ Immigrants can take part in local elections in their area 3 years after the day of receiving permanent
residency.
▶ Immigrants do not need re-entry permission if they wish to come back within 2 years of departure.
Nationality Acquisition
Target▶ For marriage immigrants
If they continued living in Korea for more than 2 years after marrying a Korean citizen.
If 3 years have passed after marrying a Korean citizen and they have stayed in Korea for more than a year
Marriage immigrant has satisfied the length of residence mentioned above in ① and ②, but has been
unable to maintain a proper married life due to Korean spouse’s death, disappearance or other reasons.
Marriage immigrant is raising or needs to raise underage children of him/her and Korean spouse and has
satisfied the length of residence mentioned above in ① and ②.
